A hand-woven wool rug woven in the village of Beniwalen in the northeastern Atlas Mountains of Morocco. Carpets are an important part of life in the Atlas Mountains, and were used as gifts for celebrations and as bedding during nomadic lifestyles. The popular diamond-shaped pattern has the meaning of ``protecting the home,'' and since each piece is hand-woven, no two pieces are the same in color or pattern.
