PETROSOLAUM
The brand was launched as PETROSOLAUM in 2012-13AW .
We aim to create products that blend the functionality of a tool to protect the feet with the artistry of a piece of art, achieving a high level of integration.
We produce shoes based on traditional manufacturing methods that have been passed down to maximize the properties and characteristics of the materials, while respecting the animals used in the materials, reflecting new challenges and unique ideas.
The brand name is a coined word combining the word " Petroleum ," which means oil, and the designer's name , Sotaro .
The fingerprint mark on the insole, which is based on the image of oil-stained fingertips, conveys the message of deeply considering the creation of products with a focus on craftsmanship.
"Side gore cordvan butt"
These side-gore boots are designed with the German-made Jaeger Gore rubber, meticulously stitched to the upper leather, to prevent the rubber from loosening over time. The design minimizes upper creasing and features a uniquely flattering length, ensuring the upper fits snugly to the instep, creating a secure hold and beautiful silhouette. Using cordovan leather for the top instep and suede for the sides and back allows for greater appreciation of the textural differences and aging characteristics of the same material over time.
The sole specifications feature a design reminiscent of more elaborate bespoke shoes. The outsole incorporates a leather half-midsole, and by thinning and tapering it towards the toe, the shoe achieves a fluid appearance while also enhancing functionality by improving the foot's release from the ground during walking. The sole's arch is thickened (fiddleback) and the welt is polished with a hot iron, while the flat welt is finished with a rounded welt from the flat welt to the arch, creating a sharp contrast in appearance and enhancing the fit of the foot. The heel is an asymmetrical leather heel, shaped by hand-carving to create a difference between the inner and outer sides. Wooden pegs (pegs) are driven into the sole and polished for a finished look.
This model comes with removable original insoles, which help to fill the gap in fit caused by the midsole settling in over time.
Material: " Cordvan butt"
This is an original material that includes the cordovan layer and the surrounding suede-like parts. It is a full-vegetable tanned horsehide leather from the horse's rump, tanned in a natural cedar pit vat by a traditional tanner in Japan (Himeji). The contrast of different textures that appear within a single piece is a characteristic feature, intentionally created by using the oil-infused cordovan layer and the surrounding butt part.

This Last (shoe mold) is for PETROSOLAUM's high-end line, made using bespoke techniques. Inspired by antique lasts, including archive military lasts, it's a modern take on classic design, a universal shape refined through the PETROSOLAUM lens.
