-About Komura's tableware-
The expression of Komura's unglazed pottery is the clay itself. Food really stands out. This unglazed pottery is called Arayachi and is also called "Nanban". It is generally called Yakishime.
The first characteristic of Nanban pottery is that it retains heat. Even if you put something hot inside, it will still feel warm and cool. Another characteristic is the tiny holes on the surface of the pottery. The ingredients of the soil mix with the ingredients, making the taste mellow and giving it excellent preservation and aging properties. There is a reason why it has been used for sake jars, soy sauce, and miso jars since ancient times. Even today, Arayaki sake jars are always used to age Awamori.
-Anagama kiln-
Komura's kiln is an old-fashioned anagama kiln. An anagama kiln combines the firing chamber where the pieces are fired with the combustion chamber where the fuel (firewood) is burned. The appearance of the pieces changes depending on the front and back of the fire, and the embers (burning firewood, etc.), and each piece has its own unique style. Prices vary depending on the appearance of the fired pieces, but the clay is the same for all of them.
-Soil and firewood-
It is made from a blend of soil from the southern part of Okinawa's main island, including soils called Jāgaru, Maaji, Kucha, and Niibi.
The firewood used is mostly Ryukyu pine, which is used for the firing process for about six days.
*Due to the nature of the clay and mud glaze, small pieces may flake off or chip, but please consider this to be a characteristic of the clay. It is not eligible for exchange due to defects. Please use with confidence as it has been carefully processed after removal from the kiln. Some products have been repaired and reinforced. Please keep this in mind. If a regular dish sponge falls apart, please use a scrubbing brush.
