-About Komura's tableware-
Furumura's unglazed pottery has the look of the clay itself, making the food really pop. This unglazed pottery is called Arayachi, also known as "Nanban." It is generally called Yakishime.
The first distinctive feature of Nanban pottery is its heat retention. Even when hot food is placed inside, it maintains a warm, cozy feeling, and the coldness continues. Another distinctive feature is the tiny holes on the surface of the pottery. The clay components and ingredients mix together, making the flavor mellow and providing excellent preservation and aging properties. There is a reason why it has long been used for sake jars, soy sauce jars, and miso jars. Even today, Arayaki sake jars are always used to age Awamori.

-Anagama-
Furumura's kiln is an old-fashioned anagama kiln. An anagama kiln combines the firing chamber where the pieces are fired with the combustion chamber where the fuel (firewood) is burned. The appearance of the pieces changes depending on the front and back of the fire, and the presence of embers (burning firewood, etc.), and each piece has its own unique style. Prices vary depending on the appearance of the fired piece, but the clay is the same for all pieces.

-Soil and firewood-
It is made from a blend of soil from the southern part of Okinawa's main island, called Jagaru, Maaji, Kucha, and Niibi.
The firewood used is mostly Ryukyu pine, which is used for the firing process for approximately six days.

-Maintenance of Arayaki-
Yakishime ware can sometimes absorb food odors. If this happens, first soak it in water overnight.
This method usually makes the smell go away. If it doesn't go away the first time, boiling it can be effective. Repeat this process until the smell is gone.
When washing, we recommend using a scrubbing brush, especially at first, as the particles are coarse.
You can use regular dishwashing detergent. Since ceramic is more fragile than porcelain, it is best to avoid soaking it.
After washing your dishes, wipe off any moisture and dry them before storing them to ensure they last a long time.
Storing it while it has absorbed water can cause mold, stains, and cracks.
Finally, rinsing it in boiling water will help it dry faster and prevent odors and mold.
Rather than refraining from using the dishes because you are worried about how they will be handled, use them as much as you can.
The more you use it, the smoother it becomes, and the appearance of the vessel changes.

*Due to the nature of the clay and mud glaze, small flakes or chips may occur, but please understand that this is a natural part of the clay. This does not qualify for a replacement or exchange. Please use with confidence as the pottery has been carefully treated after being removed from the kiln. Some products have been repaired and reinforced. Please keep this in mind. If a regular dish sponge falls apart, please use a scrubbing brush.

*This product is also available in stores, so it may already be sold out by the time you place your order.
